Tigers Australia has invested in X-ray and detection technology for all air cargo exports, ahead of new security laws being introduced
Hong Kong, Thursday 17th January 2019 – Tigers Australia is ready for new nationwide piece-level security requirements for all air cargo export goods after investing in new screening technology to maintain speedy handling in Perth.
The equipment includes state-of-the-art X-ray equipment, two explosive trace detection units, and an electro-magnetic detection (EMD) machine, resulting in the Western Australia capital becoming the only Tigers location in Australia with the capacity to conduct export screenings internally.
“Tigers Australia has purchased the equipment to support our customer base with the new legal requirements, which will impact all air cargo export commodities,” said Jason Radford, General Manager, Tigers Perth.
“At the Perth facility, we operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so we will also offer the service to the entire Perth airfreight market.
“This will allow export cargo screening to be completed after-hours, therefore reducing the need for customers to deliver direct to the Cargo Terminal Operator (CTO) where wait times can be in excess of six hours.
“The investment in this equipment will ensure that Tigers Perth remains efficient and will be fully compliant with the Australian government’s air cargo security legislation in time for the implementation date.”
The Perth facility will also become an accredited Regulated Air Cargo Agent (RACA), an additional legal requirement to conduct physical examinations of export cargo, ahead of the nationwide changes being introduced on 1st March 2019.
The new X-ray machine at Tigers Australia will allow shipments up to 1,810 mm by 1,872mm to pass through the tunnel with minimal handling to speed up the processing time.
The EMD machine will enable a full skid of product to be scanned, which will reduce the physical handling of cargo and ensure shipments arrive at destinations in premium condition.
